How do we review items on the site? Base criteria will be developed and applied. It’s important to keep in mind that reviews are someone’s opinion of a product or service, and varies on a great many things. While we try to stay impartial, it’s hard to favorably review a role playing game when you don’t like the genre and think it’s a waste of time. As well, if a product was found to be severely lacking, a review will not be done. Let’s look at some specific categories.
Motherboards:
Motherboards are a difficult item to review, for good reason. After listing the features from the manufacturer’s web site, what do you discuss? Installation is pretty well the same for all boards, depending on form factor. Benchmarks are difficult unless you have a lot of different boards to test. This is best left to dedicated motherboard sites like Anandtech, which does and excellent job and covers most of the boards on the market. What’s left are the idiosyncrasies and odd bits that make an impression. That’s what we’ll review at eBabble.
Acquisition:
Items come our way via two means; we buy them or they’re provided to us by the company. We try to indicate in the review where it came from, but it doesn’t affect the opinions expressed.
Optical drives:
This category covers CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, CD Writers. CD Speed 99 is used for CD drives, and DVD Speed 99 is used for DVD-ROM drives. These tests are generally accepted as the best available, and are utilized by optical media sites such are www.cdrinfo.com.
